The Governor General has exercised the Monarch’s prerogative and decided to allow the Prime Minister to prorogue Parliament, and face the House on January 26 next year.
This settles the issue for now. It was the GG’s right; she exercised it; our parliamentary conventions demand that we follow tradition.
Now the ball lies in the court of the three opposition parties. They must now start working as urgently as possible to flesh out their program, as set out in the Accord, so that they are ready to take power in later January, and table their own budget, giving immediate aid and support to ordinary Canadians.
Because this government can run, but it cannot hide. Harper has lost the trust of the majority of the MPs, and this will be the basis of them deciding not to vote confidence in Harper and his Tories come January 26.
