From Jane Taber's ear on the grounds, we get this latest move by Harper's new Tories:
Stephen Harper’s Conservatives is accusing Michael Ignatieff of scheming about a coalition government with his socialists and separatist colleagues.
“Today, Ignatieff is once again out talking about coalitions with the Bloc Québécois and the New Democrats,” according to Conservative Party talking points circulated today to MPs and supporters.
Looks to me like a pre-emptive strike, to frame the battleground for the next election. If you are Harper and you really fear that a possible coalition could remove you from power, then you do what that man has always done: you think it through, decide on a strategy, then finalize the tactics and launch your plan.
And if your plan is to remove from your major opponent, the Liberal Party, any desire to form a coalition before, during or after an election, then you launch pre-emptive strikes.
