Rumour has it that the PR folks are thinking of advising Prime Minister Harper to exchange the cuddly little kitten used as a prop in Harper's warm and fuzzy photo ops, for a little bunny.
The reasoning seems to be that if Sarkozy of France – with his tough-guy image burnished by recent Wikileaks – has fun with a rabbit in his office, then perhaps this might go down well in Canada and the USA.
The sight of Harper galloping after a teensy-weensy bunny, surrounded by shrieking kids, could go a long way towards offsetting the US diplomatic view of Canadians as suffering from inferiority complexes compared to Americans.
The latest Wikileaks has this amusing portrait – by, of course, an American diplomat in one of these leaky cables they have used – of Sarkozy hunting a rabbit:
