When we measure the Harper Tories’ budget in a short few days time, let us not forget that the absolute dollar value of the budget deficit is not the key figure.
What is important is whether the dollars to be spent (by individuals through spending their tax cuts or by levels of government) achieve the major purpose which Canada needs right now: to secure jobs and to prevent further job losses, and to create more jobs.
That is the acid test.
