A man who is deft with words has just formulated a very, very effective framing of the political landscape of Canada, using just 5 words: national left-of-Harper parties.

Take some time to consider this observation. Not only does it avoid any use of the rather useless categorization of Left, Right and Centre, it also draws immediate attention to the essential outstanding feature of our political contour – the dominance of Stephen Harper over all the landscape.

And it does more. By grouping the NDP and Liberal Party into one portion of our political space (left-of-Harper), his delineation forces us to focus on the elements which unite the Dippers and Liberals rather than divide them.
