Ever since a group of people based in Toronto decided to invite Michael Ignatieff to 'come home' and then worked to install him as the leader of the Liberal Party, Ignatieff has been faced with comments comparing him to Pierre Trudeau. The comparisons assume an overlap in personal characteristics which would make it easy for Ignatieff to simply assume the Trudeau mantle of philosopher-king as easily as he assumed the leadership of the Liberal Party when Dion was forced out.
The commonalities some see in the two men are mostly related to their 'otherness' when compared to the run of the mill Canadian politician.
