Yet another wrinkle in the Harper – Bruce Carson saga.

The question is a simple one: Is somebody trying to pass the buck on Carson's security clearance?

Harry Truman
Harry Truman famously had a sign on his desk which read The Buck stops here. What is not clear to us now is exactly where the Buck stops in the Carson clearance matter.

This report by Jorge Barrera of APTN National News seems to indicate that the Privy Council, the bureaucratic wing that serves the prime minister , is passing the Buck back to Harper's Prime Minister's Office (PMO), which was headed by his Chief of Staff at the time. Ian Brodie, known as The Enforcer, says the Privy Council is responsible:

Ian Brodie - What did he know?
Brodie said Carson was given secret security clearance by the Privy Council Office, the central agency in the federal bureaucracy, and everything seemed fine.

“As far as I know, Mr. Carson’s clearance did not raise any issues regarding his suitability for his PMO duties,” said Brodie. “I relied, as I should have, on the security clearance process.”
