I note that Far and Wide has written about the possibility that the Tory government might decide to stop the opposition attacks on the production to Parliament of certain documents dealing with Afghanistan by declaring the issue one of confidence. The theory goes that by doing this the Harper government will split the opposition parties, hive off either the Liberal or NDP parties, and win a vote putting this issue to bed.

Such a pre-emptive strike by the Tories would be grounded on their belief that neither the NDP nor the Liberal Party wish to have an election at this time, and so one or both of them will buckle.

Far and Wide believes that an election on this issue is a winnable one for the Liberals:
