As in hacks paragraphs out, and then James (the junior Murdoch) tells the UK Parliamentary commission that Scotland Yard wanted the changes.

But Deep Throat can reveal that a newspaper today claims the police only wanted names redacted; the decision to remove the explosive paragraphs seems to have been Murdoch's.
Today's Daily Telegraph (underlined and reddened parts done by Deep Throat):
News International’s controversial decision to alter a critical letter submitted to a parliamentary inquiry was not directly demanded by the police, the Daily Telegraph can reveal... The company has been accused of a cover-up after it gave MPs a significantly redacted version of a letter, written by Clive Goodman, the former royal editor at the News of the World... James Murdoch, the chairman of News International, also faced calls to resign over the scandal.The Goodman letter, sent four years ago, alleges that a secret deal was agreed in which he would keep his job if he did not “implicate” other members of the tabloid paper’s staff. He also alleged that editors at the tabloid, including Andy Coulson, supported phone hacking.On Tuesday News International claimed that the document was altered at the request of Scotland Yard. However, their explanation came under scrutiny after a much fuller version of the same letter was released by law firm Harbottle & Lewis.The letter submitted by Mr Murdoch to the Common’s media committee removed allegations that Mr Coulson “supported” phone hacking and that it was “widely discussed” at editorial conferences and references to the secret deal.
Deep Throat on the trail of The Letter The Daily Telegraph has learned that while Scotland Yard asked for names to be redacted to preserve the integrity of its ongoing investigation, it did not prescribe any other alterations.It means that the decision remove entire paragraphs of the letter was taken solely by News International.

Deep Throat, back from vacation after the federal election earlier this year, found the comments in the website ofthe UK Parliamentary Committee investigating hacking by NOW journalists.
The law firm of Harbottle & Lewis LLP responded to the Culture Media and Sport Committee and the Home Affairs Committee – click here for their response.
Here's the snippets that Deep Throat found rather interesting, they deal with the nature of the Firm's retainer (which was far narrower than the one Rupert Murdoch told the Committee had been undertaken), the Firm's comments on what it did, the Firm's reaction to Murdoch's statement to the Committee that the Firm had been asked to "find out what the hell was going on", and the Firm's comments on the costs of the work they did compared to the costs billed by other law firms for other work done for NOW.
Very interesting bits of history in the making!
The problem for Murdoch is that the prominent law firm has contradicted a significant statement made by Murdoch to the Parliamentary Committee. Deep Throat will check what Murdoch says when he is called back before the Committee and questioned about the two versions of the Firm's retainer, and let readers know.

As the News of the World coverup starts to crumble, with fresh revelations of old letters (including two versions of one letter, with NOW issuing one letter with references to senior managers redacted), a well-known face on CNN seems to have his own explaining to do.

Piers Morgan has been accused of countenancing the hacking of phones by third parties who supplied the results to UK newspapers. The BBC has a good summary of the charges and facts.
